چکیده

Transmission of the fundamental mode in multi-mode waveguides is an effective scheme for a silicon-based platform to reduce scattering loss. However, application usually limited straight and restricted bending waveguides. This because waveguide seriously disordered after passing bend. In this work, we have presented “matched radius” approach, by which ultra-low loss negligible modal disorder been demonstrated Si Si3N4 The estimated TE0 transmission factor almost 0 dB at matched radius, indicating that can be re-generated waveguide. proposed approach will contribute applying low large-scale photonic integrated circuits.

Multi-mode Hybrid Plasmonic Waveguides with Enhanced Confinement and Propagation

A hybrid waveguide, which consists of a dielectric wire above a dielectric-metal interface, has been previously proposed to achieve high confinement with low loss. By exciting this geometry with an aperture in the metal that takes advantage of the extraordinary transmission through subwavelength apertures, it is possible to strongly couple to multiple modes. The real part of the fundamental mod...

Coupled-mode theory and propagation losses in photonic crystal waveguides.

Mode coupling phenomena, manifested by transmission "ministopbands", occur in two-dimensional photonic crystal channel waveguides. The huge difference in the group velocities of the coupled modes is a new feature with respect to the classical Bragg reflection occurring, e.g., in distributed feedback lasers. We show that an adequate ansatz of the classical coupled-mode theory remarkably well acc...

Diffraction-free mode generation and propagation in optical waveguides

Propagation within optical waveguides is re-examined in terms of diffraction-free propagation. The concept of the general diffraction-free mode is introduced. It is suggested that the optimised photonic bandgap waveguide must generate such a mode for loss-free propagation to be achieved. The invention of the ‘‘Fresnel’’ waveguide is described. 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved. Whe...

Adiabatically tapered periodic segmentation of channel waveguides for mode-size transformation and fundamental mode excitation.

We report modeling, fabrication, and characterization of tapered waveguides, using periodically segmented annealed proton exchange in LiNbO(3). For a taper transforming the 1/e full width (intensity) mode size from 6.0 microm x 4.4 microm to 2.0 microm x 1.3 microm, 0.4-dB excess loss was observed. The large, slightly elliptical mode can ease coupling to single-mode fibers and circular free-spa...

Bending performance of large mode area multi-trench fibers.

Bending performance of the Multi-trench Fibers (MTFs) has been investigated using the Finite Element Method. Numerical investigations show that MTFs can provide low-loss effective single mode operation under bent configuration, thanks to the resonant coupling of the Higher order Modes (HOMs). Large ratio between the HOMs and the Fundamental Mode (FM) losses can be ensured, although the ratio dr...
